Philosophy for Children (P4C)

CEWC-Cymru believes that the ability to think critically and creatively is an integral part of being a responsible global citizen.

Since 2004, we have been promoting a classroom Philosophy for Children (P4C) to help students develop such skills.

We offer many services to schools in this area:

• Training for teachers, including SAPERE accredited courses P4C
• Model P4C Session with any age group
• Thinking Citizens, basic resource to connect with P4C Personal and Social Education (PSE)
• A list of other resources we use in our work P4C

CEWC began to explore the links between P4C and citizenship education in 2004, working with four primary schools in Blaenau Gwent for a project sponsored by the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation. Since then, we have trained hundreds of teachers to lead a philosophical discussion in the classroom, using P4C in conjunction with PSE, ESDGC and Thinking Skills for the new curriculum in Wales.
