Level 1 training course in Philosophy for Children
If you want to get your pupils thinking critically and creatively, then this 2-day course is for you. It provides a full introduction to the Philosophy for Children (P4C) method of education.
As well as helping to deliver subject areas, P4C can enhance Personal and Social Education, Education for Sustainable Development and Global Citizenship, and the Thinking Skills requirements of the 2008 national curriculum.
Open discussion and collaboration are encouraged throughout the course, which includes the following elements:
- Introduction to the theory and benefits of P4C
- Practical sessions – learn through trying out the P4C method
- Effective facilitation of philosophical enquiry
- Guidance on curriculum links and the timetabling of P4C
- Advice on useful resources
- Opportunity to watch videos of P4C in action
This non-residential course is charged at £225 per person (£160 for a 2nd or subsequent teacher from the same school), which covers:
- 2 full days of training
- Lunch and refreshments on both days
- Course handouts
- 2 SAPERE Level 1 Handbooks for your school, a SAPERE certificate, and the chance to join SAPERE for £15 (usually £30)

P4C
Philosophy for Children (P4C) is a classroom method which helps to improve pupils’ critical thinking skills and their ability to work co-operatively. It fosters an atmosphere of open, creative discussion among pupils of all ages, and its effectiveness has been noted in many school inspection reports and academic studies.
