Model United Nations conferences

Our Model United Nations conferences provide a fun, interactive way for students to learn about a vital international organisation: the United Nations.

We run 6 bilingual (Welsh-English) Model UN events each year, and one Welsh-only event in conjunction with Cymdeithas y Cymod.

How it works

Students work in groups of 3 as delegations to the UN. Most play the role of a UN member state, but there are also slots for observer nations, non-governmental organisations, the international press and the UN Secretariat.

CEWC-Cymru sets a topic for the conference, and provides background information and guidance at a briefing session 3 to 4 weeks before the conference. The students then undertake detailed research about their country or organisation, devising statements of position and ideas for international agreements.

The aim of the conference itself – usually held in the council chamber of a local seat of government – is for delegates to agree an international resolution on the issue under discussion, while playing the part of their country as authentically as possible.
