Training

CEWC-Cymru has worked with the support of the Electoral Commission to develop training in the following areas:

• Running an Effective School Council
These courses work most effectively when they are run as joint teacher-student training sessions. We consider how to establish a school council that is democratically effective, and how to stimulate students’ interest in election campaigns, voting and other aspects. Areas covered include:
- Establishing circle time and class councils
- Creating school council sub-committees on specific issues
- Carrying out whole-school consultations on various topics
- Encouraging a varied membership

• Developing Skills for Participation
Using our Skills for Democracy resource, this provides an introduction to the development of important skills such as decision making, compromise and conducting effective meetings.
