2009 Wales Schools Debating Championships

Congratulations to Bethan Young and Emily Payne of Ysgol Friars, Bangor, winners of the 2009 Wales Schools Debating Championships.

The final of the competition took place in Cardiff in November, with Friars proposing the motion “This House would significantly increase the number of British troops in Afghanistan”. The runners-up were Sarah Roberts and Sara Morgan of Cwmcarn High School, Crosskeys.

Bethan and Emily went on to represent Wales at the English-Speaking Union’s International Schools Mace Final in May 2010, which involves champions of the national competitions in Scotland, England, Wales and Ireland. The eventual winners were England.
