Activity
- Divide the class into teams of 5 and ask each team to name itself.
- Explain that they will be playing a 5-a-side game against each of the other teams.
» Any sport can be used: football, touch rugby, basketball etc. « - Explain that they will play for 1 minute each way, and that they have to prove that they are the best team and player. Because they won’t be playing for long there might not be a chance for goals, so they will have to show that they are the best team in other ways – ask the class to give examples.
- During each match, ask the observers to pick a best team and a best player. After each game, take a vote for team and player. Whichever teams and players have the most votes are the winners.
- Explain that this is something like how the elections in Wales work. You are asked to pick a person and a party. Ask the class why this might be (e.g. it makes things fairer).
Class Discussion
Ask the class:
- What was hard about choosing?
- Did your favourite team and player get chosen in the end?
- Did the chosen players in each team demonstrate similar characteristics? What were they?
